Marine biology area of emphasis

MBAE

 

The UCD Division of Biological Sciences offers an area of emphasis in Marine Biology within the Biological Sciences major. This program of courses is designed for students interested in careers in aquatic or marine biology, and includes a field component in which students take classes and perform independent research at the University's Bodega Marine Lab in Bodega Bay, CA. BML and the UCD Graduate Group in Ecology also offer opportunites for graduate students in marine ecology.

 

 

Marine Biology Are of Emphasis Requirements 15-17 units total

Field requirement: Students must take Evolution and Ecology 100 to satisfy Field requirement (a), and Evolution and Ecology 101 to satisfy Field requirement (b), and Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior 102 or 141 to satisfy Field requirement (d).

Ocean Processes 3 units

At least 3 units from Environmental Science and Policy/Geology 116+116G; Environmental Science and Policy 150A, 150B, 151+151L; Evolution and Ecology 115; Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology 157

Marine Organismal Biology 4 units

At least 4 units from Animal Science 118, 119, 131, 136; Evolution and Ecology 112+112L; Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior 141+141P; Plant Biology 118; Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology 120+ 120L, 121, 130

Immersion Requirement 8-10 units

One field/research course or course combination; requires residence at Bodega Marine Lab for spring quarter or summer session: Biological Sciences 122+122P; Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior 141+141P. A list of summer session offerings at the Bodega Marine Laboratory that fulfill this requirement is available in the College of Biological Sciences Dean's Office in 202 Life Sciences Addition.
