How To Check Out Materials From the Cadet Hand Library -
NOTE: UC library cards are not required within the Cadet Hand Library. Check out of materials is manual, and on the honor system. Although there are no formal due dates, we request that you return all items as soon as you no longer have a need for them.
1. Use computer lab, library, or other computers to access the Cadet Hand Library online catalogs and identify call number locations of your desired items.
2. Remove the check-out cards, usually located in a card pocket inside the back cover of books. (If no card is present, please make a temporary one from the stack of blank cards available on the circulation counter.)
3. Write today's date, including the year, and your name on the next available line.
4. Place the card in the circulation counter tray near the library exit.
5. Keep all library materials on the BML campus, unless special arrangements have been made with library staff.
For special arrangements and questions, contact library staff at chlbml(at)ucdavis(dot)edu.
UCD FACULTY & STAFF: your UCD employee ID serves also as your library card. Registration for library privileges will activate the barcode. If you have not done this on campus, contact BML library staff for help with the process.
UCD STUDENTS: your student ID serves as your library card after you register for library privileges. In the event that your barcode is inactive, contact library staff for help with the registration process.
VISITING RESEARCHERS & STUDENTS FROM OUTSIDE UCD: please see library staff about making special arrangements.
For information about library privileges at other UC libraries, and to answer other questions, visit the campus library web pages or contact BML or UCD library staff.

How To Request a BML Contribution Number for Accepted, In Press Manuscripts -
BML Contributions in peer reviewed literature
We are implementing a change in the process of assigning BML Contribution numbers for accepted, in-press publications. The change, assigning Contribution numbers after publication, is designed to eliminate any possible delay in the delivery of final manuscripts.
STEP 1:
At the time of submission, publications should contain the following statement as a footnote to the title, or in the acknowledgments:
This publication is a contribution of the Bodega Marine Laboratory, University of California at Davis.
The statement will not need any further editing at the page proof stage after acceptance.
STEP 2:
At the time of acceptance, please notify our Cadet Hand Library chlbml@ucdavis.edu with in-press information (authors, title and journal name). This information will be placed in the PUBS database for the BML annual report and other purposes. The Contribution number generated at that time will be for BML internal purposes only, and not sent to the publisher.
Regular library office hours are held in the computer lab for informal discussion of database search strategies and other information management issues. Look for announcements by e-mail.
