NOTE: UC library cards are not required within the Cadet Hand Library. Check out of materials is manual, and on the honor system. Although there are no formal due dates, we request that you return all items as soon as you no longer have a need for them.

    1. Use computer lab, library, or other computers to access the Cadet Hand Library online catalogs and identify call number locations of your desired items.

    2. Remove the check-out cards, usually located in a card pocket inside the back cover of books. (If no card is present, please make a temporary one from the stack of blank cards available on the circulation counter.)

    3. Write today's date, including the year, and your name on the next available line.

    4. Place the card in the circulation counter tray near the library exit.

    5. Keep all library materials on the BML campus, unless special arrangements have been made with library staff.

For special arrangements and questions, contact library staff at chlbml(at)ucdavis(dot)edu.

How To Request a BML Contribution Number for Accepted, In Press Manuscripts -

A BML contribution number is assigned to papers ACCEPTED and IN PRESS only. Contribution numbers are NOT assigned at the time of submission. Also, contribution numbers typically are used only for peer-reviewed literature, (i.e., not technical reports, symposium abstracts, etc, which are assigned publication numbers only).

When preparing your manuscript, add the contribution number statement but use #XXXX as a space-holder, so you will not be charged for extra lines in editing the proofs.

The statement is: Contribution #XXXX from the Bodega Marine Laboratory, University of California at Davis.

In most journals, the statement is a footnote to the title. Sometimes the statement appears in the acknowledgments, if the journal does not allow footnotes on the title page.

As soon as you receive confirmation of acceptance and the paper is in press, contact library staff at chlbml(at)ucdavis(dot)edu listing the full publication name, the article or chapter title, and authors. The contribution number will be sent to you by return e-mail.

When editing page proofs, substitute the number for the XXXX.

Please direct any questions about this process to library staff or the lab manager.
